In their last home game of the season, the Redlands East Valley varsity girls water polo team defeated Carter High School 16-7 on Jan. 22.
Before the game, REV varsity girls coach Katelyn Kroetz honored the seniors from both teams. Seniors from Carter received roses. She gave her own seniors roses as well as water polo balls signed by every member of the varsity team.
REV quickly took a lead, tallying six goals to zero against Carter in the first quarter. The Wildcats were very effective in their defense as Carter couldn’t manage to score any goals in the first segment of play.
Redlands continued their strong offensive performance in the second quarter as they scored five more goals. Carter got on the scoreboard with three goals. Halfway through the match, the scoreboard read 11-2 with REV still in the lead.
The third quarter consisted of competitive back-and-forth action, but only one goal. Missed shots and a noticeable improvement from Carter’s defense made for a low-scoring third quarter. Entering the final segment of play, the score was 11-3 in favor of Redlands.
In a sharp contrast to the third quarter, the fourth quarter was an offensive explosion. REV scored five goals and Carter netted four. REV took home the win with a final score of 16-7.
